Apply to be a Foster Parent

Love dogs and cats but not quite ready to commit to another full-time companion? Perhaps you’d like to be a foster parent to one of our newly rescued dogs, puppies, cats or kittens… While we search for permanent homes for our dogs, we rely on foster homes to provide them with a comfortable but temporary place to stay. This is a VERY important part of saving an animals life. Without foster homes, we cannot save these animals.

Some people worry that it’ll be too hard to say goodbye, but don’t stress – we only send our dogs, puppies, cats and kittens to the very best permanent homes, and many of our foster parents keep in touch with the new owners. And besides, the rewards that you receive for saving a life and opening your heart and home to a dog in need will far outweigh the momentary sadness you may feel when you send a pup off to the home of his dreams.

The fostering process is as follows:

We give you a call when we are needing a foster for a certain animal. You will then tell us if you are able to take the animal on. If so then we will ask you to collect unless we are in the area. We supply the dog/cat food and any bedding or bowels that you might need.

During this foster period, the animal might need to go to the vet to either have their next vaccination or to go for a check-up for something. We have designated vets that we use that offer us welfare rates therefore we only go to them. We will supply you with an order number and then you make a booking with them saying it’s an African tails foster dog and you supply the order number. We then get billed at the end of the month.

We have certain adoption days where we would ask you to bring the animal in order to show him/her off to better her chances of being adopted. We will let you know when these are happening.

We have a website that has all the animals up for adoption- I try and update as often as possible, as you can imagine the dogs and cats change often haha..So if someone calls us and enquires about the dog/cat that you have then we give them your contact number and they will arrange with you to come and meet the dog/cat. They are never allowed to take the animal right away because obviously we have to do home checks etc.

The more fosters we have, the more animals we can save, so if you can help, please contact Lauren on 021 510 7360 or email adoptions@africantails.co.za :)
