Zelda... Just because she's fat, doesn't mean she's happy! Zelda shared her "prison" amidst the ruins of the burnt-down cottage with Dixie. They were tied up metres away from one another but endured their confinement together. Also currently at AACL in Epping, Zelda would like her freedom ASAP!

Dixie... Rescued from being chained up her whole life and then subsequently abandoned by her owner when arsonists destroyed his cottage. This small, friendly and stoic girl dog is in urgent need of freedom and foster care. She is currently being sterilised and sheltered at the Animal Anti-Cruelty League in Epping and would give her upper canines for a garden to romp in - either forever or until her home appears. Please phone us without delay if you can help by taking her in.

Blacqui is about 1 1/2 years old. She has learnt her manners from Licorice and is very intelligent. She also has a lovely nature and plays constantly with Licorice, chasing and being chased around the garden. She is black and tan and small/medium size. Along with brother Licorice, they play nicely with other dogs when off the leash. They sit for treats before going to bed and sleep together inside. All vaccinations and deworming are up to date. They're both healthy.PLEASE, we need to find them a loving family that can preferably take them together - before the beginning of October when their owners are emigrating.

Licorice, of African Tails 2008 Calendar fame, is about 2 1/2 to 3 years old. He has had some obedience classes and is the sweetest, gentlest, most affectionate dog. He is pure black except for a few white hairs from when he was terrorized by another dog. He's medium size.Along with sister Blacqui, they play nicely with other dogs when off the leash. They sit for treats before going to bed and sleep together inside. All vaccinations and deworming are up to date. They're both healthy. PLEASE, we need to find them a loving family that can preferably take them together - before the beginning of October when their owners are emigrating.

Crunchy (aka Woofit) is a stalwart African Tailer. Her tale started in the Vissershok dump site and ended in a forever home, with an 8-month fostering hiatus in between. Sadly, Crunchy's home didn't work out for her as planned and due to her new mom's personal circumstances, Crunchy ended up at Animal Anti-CrueltyLeague (AACL in Epping), where they are looking after this girl of ours. We'd really like to have her back in our fold, so if you can foster this medium-sized, sterilised, 18 month old friendly female - please let us know ASAP. There's no time like the present to change a dog's life!

Whisp... Whisp is a 2 year old, vaccinated, dewormed and sterilized female who fully recovered from mange. She is a true Africanis and one beautiful doggie. The one who gives her all the love and care and food that she deserves is the one she will lay down her life for, she doesn’t trust other people easily and thus has a protective side over her loved ones, she is not aggressive just protective and if she knows the people won’t do her or her family any harm she will just huddle up on their laps and give them a big lick too. She has a great personality and she yodels, she is a real yodeler, it’s something to behold, she is great with other dogs, people and children, potty trained and just very well behaved over all, she has got a lot to offer.

Buckeye... Buckeye is a 3-4 year old neutered, vaccinated and dewormed male doggie, he is very sweet and kind, well-behaved, house-trained and will be the perfect companion to any couple or family. He loves giving hugs and has a c alm side to him, as long as he gets love, food and a warm place to sleep he is a happy brakkie.

Blackie...She is a 2 year old, vaccinated, dewormed and sterilized, Staffie X female. She is so loyal and loving and has the cutest and gentlest side to her it just makes her very special. She does suffer from claustrophobia in the sense that if she feels closed in or she can’t see out she will jump over the wall and just waddle around until you come home, so she would be great to go to a family on a farm with other dogs and children or a home where she can see out and where she will be taken our for regular walks. She really is a wonderful doggie with a big heart filled with love just waiting to give it to the perfect family.

Leia... Leia was rescued over a year ago from a life of abuse and neglect. When she arrived in foster care, she was skinny and terrified. She had a deep flesh wound and many scars from being bullied by the other dogs on the dumpsite. Her fur was singed from having hot water poured over her by previous her owners who, for some reason, thought this would stop her from being on heat. She was terribly hand shy from being beaten and it seemed that she’d never been on a leash. Now, after a long recovery and much rehabilitation in foster care, she’s ready to be adopted into a loving forever home. She is between 4 to 6 years old and is very loyal and alert. Once you get to know her, she’s very affectionate and loves nothing more than some well-earned attention. She’d be best suited to a single pet home, perhaps with an older person where she can be the companion dog she was born to be. Leia is house trained, sterilized and can even sit, shake hands, wait, lie down and roll over on command. Who says you can’t teach an older dog new tricks? Due to her traumatizing past, Leia will need a loving person who will be patient and understanding of her needs. Please only apply if you really can offer her the TLC she deserves. A home check will be done beforehand and the adoption fee is R300.00. Please contact Krysia on 021 689 5241 or 083 423 0043 or email krysiavaskys@gmail.com

Molly (left), Snapples (middle) & June (right) - born the day after their mothers' rescue from homeless folk. Their kind foster mom cared for them for many months but because 8 of them at once were a bit of a handful, she never managed to take them out and about.  As a result, they became strangers to the outside world and although the rest of the litter were homed, Molly, June and Snapples (all girls) were the stragglers in the homing line.  They have since been cared for at Uitsig Animal Rescue where their horizons have been broadened and they are now more trusting of strangers and change.  They are going on 8 months old and so desperately seek their homes now.  Please email contact@africantails.co.za or phone 021 448 8074. Snapples (middle) got a home this weekend (10 July 2010)!!!

Rusty... is 1.5 year old, vaccinated, dewormed and neutered male doggie. He is very energetic and so loving, he doesn’t bark much and he is a lot of fun. He will be great for people who are active as well to take him for plenty of walks on the beach or hikes on the mountain, or if he gets adopted to people who live on a  farm, great! He is very intelligent, well-trained and mannered, will be great with other dogs, people and children, he is a natural at making people happy, what an awesome doggie he is.

Luka (aka Red)... After being rescued during the mass sterilisation in April 2010, Red had to undergo an operation which was a great success – her uterus was herniated and so the vets killed 2 birds with one stone by removing it. She is in temp foster care but tends to be a bit less sociable with her own kind than with humans – absolutely adores homo sapien in any shape or form but a bit grumpy around her own. Ideally, we’d love to send her straight to her new home so if you think this red-haired beauty is for you… please do call!! Thanks to those who contributed towards her recovery!

Georgina... Georgina is a wiry haired, puppy-at-heart, 2-year old sterilized female who has conquered cancer through chemotherapy and is very eager to assume a new identity and life!
